Notes about Frans Brinkman

"Als jongen werd Frans al lid van Hercules. Toen nog net de laatste
jaren gevestigd in de Czaar Peterstraat. Frans zal dus wel een bewoner zijn geweest op de
oostelijke eilanden, waarschijnlijk in de Oostenburger Voorstraat. In die jaren had AAC Hercules
drie afdelingen t.w. worstelen, gewichtheffen en boksen. Frans werd lid van de afdeling worstelen
en kreeg hier instructie van trainer Jaap Reinderman Sr. Gedurende meer dan 15 jaar kwam Frans
uit in wedstrijden en toernooien. Dit in de klasse tot 67,5 kilogram. Voor zover bekend werd hij
twee maal kampioen van Nederland en een aantal malen kampioen met de Hercules ploeg in de
competitie. In 1925 stelde het bestuur de nog jonge Brinkman aan als trainer worstelen. Ditwas
een gouden greep. De ploeg werd jaren achtereen kampioen van Nederland; eerst met de
gevestigde mannen, maar later met een geheel verjongde ploeg. In de jaarvergadering van oktober
1936 werd Frans Brinkman benoemd als lid van verdienste.
De aan hem uitgereikte oorkonde kwam in 1987 weer in ons bezit en siert nu nog de wand van de
kantine. Naast enkele groepsfoto’;s hebben we nog een foto van Frans Brinkman uit 1925 met zijn
medaillekast en alle andere prijzen. Ook hebben we nog een foto van een kampioensploeg met
Frans Brinkman voor de ploeg als trainer Deze foto is uit 1938."
