Bob Lokhorst werd in 1900 geboren in Amsterdam. Na een opleiding aan een van de particuliere tekenscholen van de hoofdstad vervolgde hij zijn studie aan de Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Berlijn. Eenmaal schilder van beroep woonde hij jaren achtereen, met kleine onderbrekingen, in Frankrijk. Daar wijdde hij zich vooral aan het schilderen van dromerige, romantisch getinte landschappen in een gedekt palet. Zijn figuren en stadsimpressies van Parijs en Amsterdam zette hij daarentegen op in felle kleuren in een gewild-naieve stijl, waarin het karakteristieke van het afgebeelde duidelijk naar voren komt.

Bob Lokhorst was kunstschilder en tekenaar. Hij volgde een opleiding aan de Hochshule für bildende Kunst in Berlin Chatlottenburg en aan het tekeninstituut Pyrsma in Amsterdam.
Bob Lokhorst was lid van Arti et Amicitiae en de vereniging Sint Lucas in Amsterdam.
Hij woonde in Amsterdam, Parijs en in Soest.
Zijn favoriete onderwerpen waren landschappen in Nederland en Frankrijk en portretten.
