Notes about Karl Ferdinand van OOSTENRIJK

Karl Ferdinand von Österreich (* 29. Juli 1818 in Wien; † 20. November 1874 in Groß Seelowitz) war der zweitälteste Sohn des Erzherzogs Karl von Österreich (1771–1847) und Henriette von Nassau-Weilburg. Damit war er väterlicherseits ein Enkel von Kaiser Leopold II. Sein älterer Bruder war der später am Wiener Hof einflussreiche Erzherzog Albrecht.

Als Sohn des „Siegers von Aspern“ begann er seine militärische Karriere mit dem Infanterieregiment Nr. 57 in Brünn. Danach übernahm er das Kommando einer Brigade in Italien, danach bekämpfte er 1848 in Prag die Aufständischen.

1859 war er General in Mähren und Schlesien, 1860 wurde er nach Brünn versetzt.

1854 heiratete Karl Ferdinand die Witwe von Ferdinand Karl von Österreich-Este (1821–1849), Erzherzogin Elisabeth Franziska Maria von Österreich (1831–1903), Tochter von Joseph Anton Johann von Österreich. Seine Gattin war gleichzeitig seine Cousine ersten Grades, da ihr Vater ein Bruder des Vaters von Karl Ferdinand war. Aus der Ehe gingen sechs Kinder hervor:
