Notes about Hendrikus Hubertus van KOL

Hendrikus Hubertus (Henri) van Kol (Eindhoven, 23 mei 1852 — Aywaille (België), 22 augustus 1925) was een Nederlands politicus.[1]

Van Kol was een internationaal georiënteerde koloniale woordvoerder uit de beginjaren van de SDAP, die hij samen met elf anderen oprichtte. Gezamenlijk werden zij ook wel de twaalf apostelen genoemd. Van Kol was aanvankelijk ingenieur in Nederlands-Indië. In 1913 behoorde hij tot de voorstanders van regeringsdeelname van de SDAP en achtte hij zichzelf ministeriabel. Hij was een vermogend man en een royale sponsor van de socialistische beweging. Zijn heimelijke zakelijke activiteiten in de kolonie Nederlands-Indië stonden echter op gespannen voet met de idealen van de SDAP.

Van Kol overleed na van de treeplank van een auto te zijn gevallen, waarbij hij zijn rib kneusde. Een splinter van die rib veroorzaakte later een inwendige bloeding, die hem fataal werd. Op 26 augustus 1925 vond zijn crematie plaats op begraafplaats Driehuis-Westerveld.
