Naam ook: Pierre Segar

Bij zijn doop op 31 maart in 1602 in de Waalse kerk kreeg hij de naam Pierre, een naam die al gauw wijzigt in Pieter. Pieter was Bouratwerker.
Op 22 juni 1622 gaat hij in ondertrouw met Janneken Carpentiers, weduwe. Dit huwelijk gaat niet door, bij de aangifte staat de notitie: met consent van de Burgemeester opgehouden. Het is niet helemaal zeker of dit onze Pieter was, er waren immers meer Segars in Leiden.
Zeker is, dat hij op 20 april 1624 in ondertrouw ging met Haesjen Cornelisdr. geboren te Leiderdorp, wonend te Leiden. Uit dit huwelijk werden zeker 2 kinderen geboren, maar zeer waarschijnlijk drie. Eerst een dochter Maritien, waarbij zijn vader, moeder en zuster doopgetuige zijn; en anderhalf jaar later een dochter Katelina waarbij als getuige Gerrit Cornelis en Marie Segaar optreden. In 1627 of 1628 moet dan zoon Jan geboren zijn. Van hem is geen doopinschrijving te vinden, maar als grond voor deze conclusie valt aan te voeren dat Jan zich later Jan Pieters Segaer noemde, dus zoon van een Pieter. Diezelfde Jan neemt zijn oom Pieter Waterloo mee, als hij in ondertrouw gaat.
Pieter werd niet oud; in 1635 woedde er een pestepidemie in Leiden, waaraan per dag soms meer dan 100 mensen overleden. Het mag een wonder heten dat er in die tijd nog iets geregistreerd werd.
In het begraafboek van Leiden vallen in elk geval de volgende begravingen te lezen:

09 oct. 1635 Segaren: Pieter, vrouw van,Schoolsteeg, Pieterskerk.
10 oct. 1635 Segaren: Pieter, kind van, Schoolsteeg, Pieterskerk
12 oct. 1635 Segaren: Pieter en een kind, Schoolsteeg, Pieterskerk
Hoeveel kinderen Pieter en zijn vrouw hadden is niet zeker, maar de conclusie van drie lijkt gerechtvaardigd waarbij dan alleen Jan de pestepidemie overleefd zou hebben. Er waren in die tijd zoveel wezen dat ook de weeskamer nauwelijks de kans had iets te registreren er is geen inschrijving van Jan te vinden en ook in de notariële archieven was geen testament van zijn vader te vinden. Het is waarschijnlijk dat Jan is grootgebracht door zijn tante Sara en oom Pieter Waterloo.
