De Gols was vroeger De Jonghe. Waarschijnlijk was de eerste De Jonghe Jan gehuwd met ene dame De Gols en kreeg hun zoon de twee namen, wat nu soms nog gebeurt.
Later viel De Jonghe eraf en bleef De Gols over. U moet begrijpen dat in die tijd de ambtenaren op de gemeentehuizen nog niet zo goed konden schrijven en zij schreven ook op wat zij hoorden, de aangever van de geboorte kon over het algemeen niet lezen of schrijven in die tijd en kon dus ook niet weten wat de ambtenaar opschreef.
De Jonghe-De Gols Jan kreeg dus 4 kinderen waaronder de dochter Maria die dan wel weer de 2 namen kreeg.
