De naam van de zaak is Westerman, Keurslagerij :de zaak is afkomstig van opa en oom van de huidige slager Westerman. Beide hebben zelf ook een slagerij gehad . Opa Willem Westerman is ooit een slagerij begonnen in Heiligerlee (Kloosterholt) en islater verhuisd naar Winschoten (Langestraat). Oom Egbert Westerman heeft jarenlang die zaak mogen voortzetten met daarbij later een filiaal in Veendam (Kerkstraat).

Helaas is oom Egbert Westerman vroegtijdig overleden en was de Gert Westerman te jong voor eventuele voortzetting en is die winkel verkocht.

Opa en oom Westerman hadden een leus: Ieder roept uit volle borst: “Fijn is Westerman’s leverworst”. Dat probeer de derde generatie Westerman ook te bereiken.

In de loop van de vorige eeuw kreeg een andere ondernemer de tuin in handen. En ver na de Tweede Wereldoorlog was het Willem Westerman, een bekende slager in de stad, die hem verwierf en er met een van zijn zonen, Gerhard, woningen bouwde.
