Nog wat wetenswaardigheden. Hindrik Nieuwold (mijn opa) is omgekomen door een scherf van een tankgranaat, gelijktijdig met zijn neef Jan Hartman. Ook is er nog een Jan Nieuwold bij omgekomen. Ik weet niet welke relatie Jan Nieuwold had met Hindrik Nieuwold (het was wel familie). De drie mannen waren aan het werk op het land. Jan Hartman (neef van Hindrik) kwam voor zover ik weet uit Amsterdam en was ondergebracht bij Hindrik en Harmke om aan te sterken (in Amsterdam was niets te eten inde oorlog)

Het oorlogsmonument in 't Waar werd pas ruim 40 jaar na de bevrijding geplaatst. Het monument herinnert aan één van de grootste groepen slachtoffers van oorlogsgeweld: Burgers die zelf niet betrokken waren bij gevechtshandelingen, maar wel getroffen werden.
Op 15 april 1945 kwamen de eerste bevrijdingstroepen, 2 tanks, aan in 't Waar. Dit werd opgemerkt door een observatiepost van het luchtdoelgeschut bij Fiemel, aan de kust.
Er werden een paar granaten afgevuurd, die geen schade aan de tanks toebrachten maar wel het leven kostten aan mensen in 't Waar, 3 mannen, 1 vrouw en 1 jongen van 9 jaar. De namen: Jan Niewold (49), Hendrik Niewold (47), Cornelis Kraayema (42),Jantje Hofman (49), Jan Hartman (9).
Op de avond van 4 mei is er elk jaar een korte bijeenkomst, met daarna voor wie dat wil koffie in partyboerderij de Leeuwenborg.
