Hij wordt genoemd in KITA, inventarisnummer 35, regest 214x, als wonendin Roswinkel.??In de vijftiende-eeuwse schattingslijst van Drenthe wordtin Roswinkell een Roloff van Hessen Sassen lant door de bisschop vanUtrecht aangeslagen voor: 1 r. g..??Ook in de "Overeenkomst tussen dievan Weerdinge en die van Roswinkel om zich te houden aan de scheidbriefvan 1516" d.d. 29/05/1572 wordt Roeleff Sassens samen met Johan Staesgenoemd als 'volmachtige' van Roswinkel.

In 1645 komt er een Willem Sassen voor op de grondschattingslijst te Roswinkel

Er is geen bewijs te vinden dat Wilm Sassen de vader van Harmen Sassen is, maar is aangenomen op grond van de vernoeming van Harmen’s kinderen, en dat de naam Wilm Sassen al eerder in Roswinkel is voorgekomen.
