Ben verkocht ook wel aan bloemenhandelaren thuis. In de aanloop naar de Kerst knipte hij bonte Hulst en Hulst met rode bessen (Ilex) van de heg aan de weg. In de winter en vroege voorjaar trok hij Tulpen in bloei, Hyacinten, met bol en als snijbloem, en Narcissen. Voor de Kerst ook de lage Tulpjes met bol (Duc van Tol). In een van de kassen had hij groen voor tussen Freesia's en Anjers ; Asperagus plumosus. Dit had hij in lange takken of zgn. getopt groen. Later in het voorjaar had hij Forsythia-takken in verschillende kwaliteiten. Ben had naam gemaakt als kweker van bloemen voor veldboeketten. Soorten Korenbloemen (Centaurea), Duizendschoon (Dianthus barbatus), Vrouwenmantel (Alchemilla), Margrieten, Phlox, Zonnehoed, Dahlia;s, Zonnebloemen (Helianthus) etc.
Hij kweekte geweldige Eremurus, Gladiolen. Vanaf eind augustus/september had hij Chrysanten (tros en geplozen eenkoppers) in verschillende kleuren. Afhankelijk van het weer tot aan de eerste nachtvorst. Deze eenkoppers werden als kleine bloemknop "gezakt" in een zakje met sluiting om smetting door regen en slechte weersomstandigheden te voorkomen. Ook werden de eenkoppers onder glas gekweekt waardoor de teelt wat kon worden verlengd. Zijn eigen lievelings bloembolletje was toch wel het blauwe druifje. Jarenlang had Ben een vaste medewerker in dienst, Gerard Jansen uit Kortenhoef. Ben was een markante verschijning ; een manchester broek, kort werkjasje, een peuk in de mondhoek, met alpinopet. Een tuinder pur sang; magere kaken en blanke schoppen (gereedschap).

Ben is geboren in het huis vlak aan de weg voor het landgoed "Stilhorn". Ben was bloemen- en plantenteler, eerst aan de Eilandseweg 48. In 1947 begon hij voor zichzelf en kocht hij in Kortenhoef aan de Emmaweg 71 het huis + grond. Hij ging zelf boven op een kamer wonen en verhuurde beneden aan de fam. van Ouwerkerk, incl. eten en de was. Hij leerde Coby kennen omdat haar ouders een kwekerij in Laren hadden. Na hun huwelijk kon je ook bloemen bij hen kopen. In 1987 kreeg hij een herseninfarct, waardoor hij niet meer kon praten. (Hij overleed op de dag van H.Clara van Assisi)
