Ds. A. Broos was leraar van de Doopsgezinde Gemeente van Surhuisterveen van 1858 - 1864. Hij heeft zich zelf nooit ingeschreven als lid van de Gemeente; ook een van zijn opvolgers heeft dat niet gedaan;
in het Gemeenteboek aangelegd in 1858 schrijft ds. Broos:
Den Veertienden Februarij dezes jaars 1858 heb ik mij na in de Maand September 1857 tot Proponent bij de Algemeene Doopsgezinde Societeit te Amsterdam, bevorderd te zijn, en nadat ik voor de mede aan mij opgedragene betrekking als Leeraar te Warga bedankt had, -
openlijk en plegtig aan deze gemeente van Surhuisterveen verbonden
door het houden eener leerrede over Handelingen IV v. 12 "en de zaligheid is in geenen ander, want er is ook onder den hemel geen andere naam, die onder de menschen gegeven is door welken wij moeten behouden worden"
