Notes about Jan Willem van der Does

Jan bezocht het Erasmus gymnasium te Rotterdam. Daarna ging hijTheologie studeren aan de RU-Utrecht. In 1908 werd hij als predikant inde NH-kerk toegelaten. Hij begon als hulpprediker in Wissekerke (N.Beveland). Op 29-8-1909 werd hij te Nieuw Beijerland bevestigd alspredikant. Hier richtte hij een jongelingsvereniging op. Zo'n verenigingwas bestemd voor de kerkelijke jeugd van zestien jaar en ouder. Voor detoenmalige jeugd hebben dergelijke verenigingen veel bijgedragen tot hunalgemene ontwikkeling. Slechts weinigen volgden na het lager onderwijsnog vervolgonderwijs. Op 31-10-1918 werd hij predikant te Brielle. Vijfjaar was hij voorzitter van het classicale bestuur, dat is hetregionale, kerkelijke bestuur van Brielle. Tevens was hij voorzitter vande redactie van de Zondagsbode voor Voorne en Putten. Op 16-3-1928 werdhij predikant in Vianen. Hier richtte hij een knapenvereniging op (voorjongens van 12 tot 16 jaar). Op 9-12-1930 werd hij predikant teMonnikendam en bleef daar tot zijn emeritaat in 1949. Jan verhuisdedaarna naar Beesd. Tot 1953 was hij in het naburige Aquoy noghulpprediker. In 1954 verhuisde het gezin naar Gorinchem.
