Pastoor schrijft hem in als Stephanus Brants en vermeldt geen moeder; waarschijnlijk heeft hij een fout gemaakt door alleen de voornaam van de vader en de achternaam van de moeder in te vullen. Een Matthias Brants woonde toen wel in Schinnen, maar die was ruim zeven maanden eerder vader geworden en komt dus niet in aanmerking,
