    Floris wilde niet het houtvak in en werkte aanvankelijk in de bosbouw. Hij startte samen met een compagnon de modelboerderij Hofstede Oud-Bussum. Hij zette zich als Naarder actief in voor de geldende rechten van de Erfgooiers. Floris was in 1929 Lid van de Tweede Kamer der Statengeneraal. Hij had een eigen partij (de Middenpartij voor Stad en Land) en voerde actie tegen de laatste tollen op wegen. Zijn strijd richtte zich vooral tegen de tol bij Muiden.
