      LifeSketch: Sjerp continued with the family business, the cabinet shop, "de Lijmpot". He also opened a shop in Bolsward and Leeuwarden. In Bosward he began the "Stoommeubelfabriek de Lijmpot". After moving to Bolsward he became active in civic and church activities. In 1921, he became the mayor of the town. He held this post until November 28, 1939. His son Johannes was given the factory to run, and his son Jan was given the shops. On August 31, 1935, he was knighted by Queen Juliana into the order of Oranje Nassau for his outstanding work of his civic duties.
