Na het vroegtijdig overlijden van haar zwager Kees Knijff, nam Jans eind 1919 de zorg voor de drie oudste kinderen van haar zus op zich. In 1926 verhuisde het gezin naar Teteringen, waar ook Mijntje's jongste dochter Sjaan zich nog bij hen voegde.
