Afkondiging van het huwelijk vond plaats zowel in Amsterdam (woonplaats van ZWEITZES ouders) als in Smallingerland. ZWEITZE was doopsgezind (doop bij belijdenis op 27.1.1839), en kon daarom niet beschikken over een doopacte. Voor zijn huwelijk moest hij een acte van bekendheid laten maken met 7 getuigen door de "Regtbank in eerste Aanleg". Via deze acte werd het bewijs geleverd dat Jan Ates Vonk uit Ureterp een broer was van Zweitze's vader, Pieter Ates van Veen.
