Op 23 maart 1672 is David (Davidus) Singel, als opvolger van zijn vader Melchior, aangesteld tot oeconomus van de burse. Hij oefende dit ambt uit tot circa 13-12-1694.
De burse was een instelling van de Universiteit te Franeker, die fungeerde als woon- en eethuis voor de alumni (onbemiddelde studenten) en als eethuis voor de andere studenten, met name voor hen die het recht hadden er gratis maaltijden te gebruiken (vrijbursen).
De dagelijkse leiding van de burse berustte bij de oeconomus of tafelhouder.
