Joukje de Vries and her husband Sijberen Bokkes Visser, and their three children, Bokke, Taede, and Klaas, emigrated from the Netherlands, departing Rotterdam 4 October 1951 aboard the S.S. Volendam, and landed in Quebec City on 12 October 1951, first settling in Hemingford, in the Eastern Townships in Quebec, where Sijberen worked as a farm hand before moving to Carrying Place, Ontario in the spring of 1952.
