Ik ga ervan uit dat Sijmon Koppelaar in Dordrecht gedoopt is, maar ik kan zijn doopinschrijving daar niet vinden. Dat hij een zoon is van Thomas Coppelaer en Digna van der Proeff staat in de administratie van de Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC). Sijmon treedt op 20 januari 1710 als soldaat in dienst van de VOC. Hij vaart uit met het schip 'Duivenvoorde'. Sijmon keert op 3 augustus 1711 met de 'Korssloot' terug in Nederland en treedt uit dienst van de VOC. Sijmon trouwt in 1716 in Dordrecht met Maria Leenmans. Zij komt uit Wezel (in Gelderland) en woont in 1716 in Dordrecht bij de Wijnbrug. Sijmon woont in 1716 in Dordrecht in de Nieuwkerkstraat. Sijmon leeft niet meer op 22 september 1740, de dag waarop zijn dochter Anna in ondertrouw gaat. Maria leeft nog wel op 3 september 1744, de dag waarop haar dochter Dina in ondertrouw gaat.
