Margaretha verblijft vanaf haar 7e jaar enige tijd in Baarn in een tehuis voor ‘bleekneusjes' aan de Eemnesserstraat. Ze blijft samen met haar twee jongere ongetrouwde zusjes bij pa en moe thuis wonen aan de Da Costakade 208 / huis, tot na hun overlijden.
Vervolgens trekt ze voor twee jaar in bij oudste zus en zwager Pieter Versloot. In mei 1927 verblijft ze als inwonend dienstbode bij een gegoede familie in de Rusweg 184 te Hilversum. Maart 1931 is ze terug in Amsterdam en trekt opnieuw in bij familie. Margaretha trouwt de weduwnaar van haar zuster Johanna Geertruida.
