W.A.Versloot, was zijn oudste, niet getrouwde dochter Willemijntje Anna, welke bij hem thuis woonde in de tijd waar hij weduwnaar was. In deze tijd dat Jan geboren werd leefden er meerdere Jan Willem, Jan Cornelis, Leendert Jan en Leendert Willem etc. in de bronnen die over deze personen handelen, werd vaak alleen de eerste voornaam gebruikt en later ook weer de gehele. Jan was een zoon van Cornelis Willem Versloot, *1837, Oudenrijn en van Mijntje van den Berg. Jan was heel belezen, van beroep klompenmaker, en bij uitval van de predikant op zondag "preeklezer" in de kerk, tot zover uit de genealogie Oskam.

Jan Willem was drager van de eremedaille in zilver, verbonden aan de orde van Oranje Nassau.
