The Junyo Maru - 5620 Dutch, English, Australian and American POWs and Javanese slave labourers died when this Japanese cargo boat was torpedoed, on 18 September 1944 off the south west coast of Sumatra, by a British submarine.

LIST OF CASUALTIES
The list contains the names of 1382 Dutch, 8 US and 3 Australian POWs but not those of about 4000 Javanese slave labourers who also perished. 
The names of  56 British POW casualties are listed on theCOFEPOW website
N.B. K.N.I.L. (in table below) translates as Royal Netherlands East Indies Army.

Hallo mijn naam is Herman Dielemans en ik ben op zoek naar het verhaal achter Maarten Cornelis Versloot , mijn achterneef, tijdens de zoektocht naar mijn familie ben ik gestuit op Maarten Cornelis als zijnde de zoon van Harmen Versloot en Anthonia Adriana Dielemans.
Op de persoonskaart van zijn ouders staat vermeld zijn vertrek naar Balikpapan en na onderzoek kwam het verhaal van de Junyo Maru en het tragische overlijden naar voren.
Er zijn echter nog enkele vragen van mijn kant waar ik geen antwoord op kan vinden:
Een week voor vertrek naar Balikpapan,Borneo in 1937 is hij in Den Haag getrouwd met Lovinia Gale uit Dunston Graafschap Durham, Engeland .
Hij stond vermeld als Kantoorbediende bij vertrek en later op zijn POW kaart Sergeant Majoor Adm.Gevangen genomen 1942-3-8 te Bandoeng, ,
Sumatra.
Ook staat op de POW kaart vermeld Occupation: Employee B.P.M. (Bataafse Petroleum Maatschappij, Nu Shell)
Betekend dit dat hij als werknemer van BPM naar Balikpapan vertrokken is en na de vernietiging van Balikpapan naar Bandoeng vertrokken is en daar in dienst getreden is van het KNIL.?
Ook staat op zijn POW kaart vermeld het adres van zijn vrouw nl. Mevr. Versloot Bandoeng, Dammerlaan 65 en het adres van zijn ouders in Den Haag.

Ik probeer uit te zoeken of er ook kinderen geboren zijn uit dit huwelijk en waar zijn vrouw na de oorlog is gebleven.
Ik heb haar naam niet kunnen vinden bij de namen van de overleden vrouwen uit de vrouwenkampen .
