Hij was verzetsstrijder en moest onderduiken vanwege de prijs die op zín hoofd was gezet door de Duitse bezetter. Hij kreeg hiervoor het Verzetsherdenkingskruis uitgereikt door ZKH Prins Bernhard op 5 mei 1981 in Wageningen, tevens het Mobilisatiekruis en het Veteraneninsigne. Hij had eerst een electriciteitszaak en was later technisch beheerder van de weverij en textielfabriek van Jansen & Tilanus in Vriezenveen.
