Hij was heer van Noord- en Zuid Welland en Noord Welle (Schouwen). Groothandelaar in tropisch hardhout, betrokken bij aanleg spoorlijn Batavia-Soerabaja, administrateur bosexploitatie Djatiesarie (Pekalongan), eigenaar koffieland Pringgombo, mede-eigenaar land Madjenang, oprichter en directeur Solosche Tramway Mij., Pasaroen en Probolinggo Stoomtram Mij-en., Japa Petroleum Mij. en Indische Industrie Banja, oprichter Guyana Goud Places Mij. in Suriname, en na zijn terugkeer naar Nederland, lid gemeentebestuur van Den Haag. Kennelijk was hij consul van Mexico in Den Haag (1904).
Klein VenetiÍ:
Aan het Leersumse Veld kleeft een aardig historietje. M.C. Verloop kocht het gebied in 1911 voor 20.000 gulden. Verloop had in de tropen fortuin gemaakt en was een van de eerste autobezitters van Nederland. De familie liet er een huis bouwen, en de vennetjes werden een speelplek met een netwerk van kanaaltjes om in te kanoÍn: Klein VenetiÍ. In een van de plassen kwam een zwembad met een kunstmatig eiland waarop een theekoepel verrees. Rond de plas werd een zandpad aangelegd om te kunnen motorcrossen. Afijn, toen Staatsbosbeheer het gebied overnam in 1937 haalde het Leersumse Veld opgelucht adem. In die buurt is een straat naar hem vernoemd: M.C. Verloopweg.
