Hij was zeeman, schipper en kapitein ter koopvaardij (van o.a. van het fregatschip ìWilhelminaî). Er zijn tientallen kranten artikelen te vinden (Rotterdamsche Courant) op Delpher.nl (1815-1835) waar hij als kapitein uitvaart naar Londen, St. Petersburg, Canton en Batavia. Na de dood van zijn eerste vrouw vestigde hij zich in Rotterdam. Hij had vier zonen (waarvan twee gehuwd) die allen overleden voor hun 45-jarige leeftijd en geen mannelijk nageschlacht hadden. Deze Verloop tak is in mannelijke lijn dus al snel uitgestorven.
