    Baron van Agrim, 5e graaf van Athlone, pair van Ierland, vrijheer van Amerongen, heer van Ginkel, Elst en middachten, in de ridderschap van Utrecht, luitenant opperhoutvester, lid van het Engelse Parlement.

    Born in 1743, he was only four when he succeeded his father as 5th Earl of Athlone. He was a member of the nobles of the province of Utrecht, Ranger of the same province and, in 1790, became Chief Magistrate of the city of Utrecht. In 1765 he married his cousin, Anna Elisabeth Christina van Tuyll van Serooskerken, and they became the parents of nine children. On 25 September 1790 Karl Theodor of Bavaria was instrumental in his becoming a Count of The Holy Roman Empire. When the French invaded The Netherlands in 1795, he left for England with the Prince of Orange and took his seat in the House of Lords. On 1 August 1806 he obtained an annuity from the House of Lords as he was a poor Peer. In 1808 he died at Teddington, Middlesex, and was buried there. After the defeat of Napoléon, his widow returned to The Netherlands and in 1819 died in The Hague. .
