Er heerste veel ziekte in dit gezin. Een aantal kinderen stierf. Kortom:veel ellende, narigheid en vooral verdriet. Zij ontvingen dan ook vele jaren armengeld, voedsel en kleding van de diaconie. Enkele voorbeelden uit de veelheid aan bewaard gebleven aantekeningen: Een verantwoording uit het jaar 1849 betreffende verstrekking gedurende 7 weken f 1,-; 3weken f 0,75; 2 weken f 0,41 en tarwe- en roggebroden. Een melding uit 1850, die ik uit de velen maar noem: 7 tarwe- en 2 roggebroden. Bron van deze gegevens is het Archief Nederlands Hervormde Kerk van Westmaas.
