Notes about Gerritdiena Tiemans

"Dena" was the only daughter of Herman and Johanna Tiemans. Peter was born in Holland and came to America as a young man. He settled in the New Holland area. They were married in 1902 and farmed in the area for many years. Sometime in the '20s Peter went into the Grocery business with Enno Timmer. He put his sons to work candling eggs, making egg cases and general store work. On Saturdays when the other boys would play ball, their children would work in the store. Due to ill health, Peter traded his store for the Veurink farm. Now their sons could farm and this was more to their liking.
In the 1930's, they moved to Charles Mix County, Carroll Township, near Platte South Dakota. They lived on the George Cole farm until 1943. In 1940 their son Herman purchased the farm. They bought a home in Platte where they retired and enjoyed many years.
