Getrude Merx was afkomstig uit Nijswiller, waar haar familie reeds in 1609 wordt vermeld. Het echtpaar woonde in 1704 in Mechelen waar het oudste kind Lambertina Clara (van Weerst) wordt geboren. De andere kinderen worden in Gulpen geboren.
