Hindrik Jans HogenEsch wordt in de haardstedenregisters te Gieten genoemd als koster en keuter van 1692 tot 1694. In een andere bron uit 1694 wordt hij vermeld als schoolmeester, met zijn moeder. In de collecte voor de vluchtelingen uit Frankrijk en de Paltz van 1699 wordt hij Mr. Hindrik Coster genoemd. Hij schonk 11 stuivers. Een Jantje Costers schonk een bedrag van drie stuivers, naar alle waarschijnlijk is dit zijn al eerder genoemde moeder.
