Notes about Johan I van Beusichem

Heer van Culemborg

Hij beloofde in 1307 (na belening door de Graaf van Gelre) de burcht Maurik als open huis te bewaren. Zo schrijft Hubert Schenk van Culemborg (zijn zoon) in een brief uit 1343 aan de hertog van Gelre: zijn vader was Johan van Bosinchem die de poorters van Culemborg op sinterklaasdag 1318 vrijheden had verleend; zijn auder vader (grootvader) Hubrecht van Bosinchem, die evenals zijn vader en grootvader het schenkersambt van de bisschop van Utrecht had bekleed. Deze Hubrecht had in 1281 bij eenruil met de proost en het kapittel van Oud Munster te Utrecht de vrije eigendom verworven van de hoeve gelegen in Kulenburg waarop zijn kasteel gebouwd was.
