Buiten de grens in het Duitse gebied, de ‘Kleefse barrière’ genaamd (tot 1672): Rees, Wezel, Rijnbeek, Orsoy en Meurs.
Verder over de oostgrens: Emmelkamp (Emlichheim bij Coevorden) Leeroord (Lierort bij Leer) en Emden.
Barrièresteden in België: Veurne, Knocke, Ieper, Waasten, Meenen, Doornik, Namen en Dendermonde.
