Begonnen als slagersknecht woonde hij zijn huwelijk aan de Garenmarkt.
Daar kwam ook het eerste kind. Aan de Nieuwe Rijn, begon Bart zijn eigen winkel, daar kwam het 2e kind. Door de crisis maar ook door zijn wanbeleid, ging zijn zaak op de fles.
Zijn slagerij aan de Haarlemmerstraat 33 ging 30-09-1912 Failliet ( bron Leidsch Dagblad)
Het stel verhuisde naar de Raamsteeg, daar kwam het derde kind. Het huwelijk liep op de klippen en zijn vrouw verhuisde naar Rotterdam.
