Door de uitbreiding van het westelijk havengebied van Amsterdam moest de Houtrakpolder en ook Ruigoord wijken. Het huis en de smederij werden onteigend. Wim en Rie  van Straaten hadden bedongen dat direct na het verlaten van de woning, deze gesloopt zou worden. Dit is ook zo gebeurt. Dit om te voorkomen dat krakers er bezit van namen.                                                                                                                                           Ruigoord is tot op de dag van vandaag (2015) nog steeds een enclave in het havengebied, bewoond door kunstenaars en alternatieven.
