    Persoonlijk verhaal : Arie van Duijn
    De HOBBEMA, in management van de Gebr. van Uden N.V., vertrok op 24 oktober 1942 van New York naar het Verenigd Koninkrijk in convooi SC-107. Op 3 november 1942 des avonds om 21.00 uur werd de HOBBEMA op de Atlantische Oceaan bij IJsland, in positie 55°55'NB en 37°20' WL in de midscheeps getroffen door een torpedo, afgevuurd door de Duitse onderzeeboot U 132. De HOBBEMA begon snel te zinken en ging verloren. Bij de ramp verloren 28 opvarenden van de HOBBEMA het leven. Zij was op reis met stukgoederen en munitie van Newport News en New York naar Belfast Lough.
