Notes about Geertrui Coeymans

In 1535, wanneer zijn broer Jeronimus trouwt met Constantia Spinelli, woont Jan nog steeds in Wuustwezel. Hij overlijdt er waarschijnlijk, en heeft een zoon Pauwels Coeymans, wiens dochter Geertruyt op 31 december 1619 en 23 januari 1624 genoemd wordt als echtgenote van Peeter Henricx (19). Pauwels Coeymans was ook de schoonvader van Anthonis van Staeyen en grootvader van Pauwels van Staeyen die op 30 december 1623 woonachtig was in Wuustwezel (20). Deze tak van de familie blijft in Wuustwezel voor afstammelingen zorgen, die wellicht niets meer wisten over een rijk koopman wiens kinderen Coymans of Koymans vanuit Antwerpen succesvol uitzwermden tot in Hamburg, Keulen, Lissabon en Amsterdam. Wij achten het niet onbelangrijk deze gegevens hier te publiceren, om zo de herkomst van deze familie in een ruimer kader te plaatsen.
