Gerrit Kuijs was meerdere malen als knecht werkzaam in Wijk aan Zee en Duin, o.a. van nov. 1884 tot half okt. 1888, In het bev.register van Castricum stond hij daarna als dienstb(aar) bij J. Twisk in Zuid-Bakkum.
Na hun huwelijk woonden ze op de Brakersweg in Castricum.Hij is ook nog raadslid geweest in deze gemeente. Volgens zeggen werd daarom de Brakersweg tot zijn huis aan toe bestraat, maar verder niet.
