Notes about Klaas Schagen

In mei 1898 kwam Klaas Schagen (1873-1939) als pachtboer op de boerderij Paulina Hoeve in Beemster. Hij was geboren in Sloten. Hij was enkele weken eerder getrouwd met Geertruida Catharina van Bohemen uit de Haarlemmermeer. Ze kregen vier dochters en vijf zoons, twee van hen overleden jong. In de Landbouwtelling van 1910 staat Klaas Schagen vermeld als landbouwer met 13 hectare gepacht land en een veestapel bestaande uit 2 paarden, 8 melkkoeien, 1 kalf, 5 lammeren, 3 varkens met 18 biggen en 8 kippen. Toen de eigenaar in 1919 de boerderij met land te koop aanbood, kocht Klaas deze voor ƒ 38.000. Maar in 1926 moest hij het alweer verkopen. Koper was Franciscus Josephus ten Bos. Klaas Schagen werd weer pachtboer. Hij teelde onder meer verschillende aardappelrassen.
