Het nageslacht noemde zich Smeenge de aschternaam van de moeder van Berent

Op de essen van Gasteren werd rogge, tarwe, boekweit en aardappelen verbouwd.
In 1830 werd het bezit van grond op nauwkeurige kaarten aangetekend met percelen
met nummers met daarbij in bijgeveogde lijsten de namen van de eigenaren. Gasteren stond
vanaf 1830 geregistreerd als sectie O. In de lijsten van eigenaren komt Berent van Reyn
regelmatig voor.

Op 6 juni 1617 kwam de gemeente Anloo met een regelement voorkomen/blussen brand.
Als uitvloeisel daarvan werden in diverse buurtschappen brandmeesters aangesteld,
ook in Gasteren.De naam van Berend komt daar op voor (1822).

Volgens het kadaster van 1832 was er een Berend Smeenge eigenaar van Kruisstraat 6 en
8 en mede eigenaar was Jan Smeenge. Waarschijnlijk de broer van Berend Smeenge.
