De jonge bruid ging echter gewoon weer bij haar ouders wonen, want pas het kerkelijk huwelijk gold voor hen als volwaardig huwelijk.
Omdat opa en oma Geurts in 1950 25 jaar getrouwd waren, wilden zij niet dat er in dat jaar een jong huwelijk gesloten werd. Dat zou hun feest mogelijk overschaduwen.
Pas na het kerkelijk huwelijk op 25 april 1951 zijn Willy en Sophie bij elkaar gaan wonen.
