Vermeldingen in gerichts en cijnsboeken:
- oktober 1711, Ampt Epe, smalle of crijtende thiend te trekken; op den Essert: Jan Jans.
- 14 augustus 1724 peinde de ontvanger Heno. Ysendooren ..., met name aan het erve en goed de Horst te Dijkhuizen zoals het meijersgewijze bij Jan Jansen van den Eschert gebruikt werd.

Behalve van de zoons Jan en Reindert zijn van de overige kinderen geen sporen gevonden. Zoon Jan is de enige die de naam van den Esschert laat voortleven.
