Als men vroeger nieuwe buren kreeg, was het een gebruik dat de ”naober” de nieuwe buren ging halen. Zo kon Dora Timmermans zich nog herinneren, dat haar vader Dreeskes Tien, de nieuwe pachter van Klaassenhof, zijn oom Mestrom in 1917 te Maasbracht ging halen.41 Het was gewoon, dat iedereen die een ”geveers” (kar) had meeging. Ook Sjeng Jacobs aan de Roggelseweg werd door de buren in 1927 te Grubbenvorst afgehaald.42 Toen
Bovensbos op de Keup een nieuwe bewoner kreeg, trokken, volgens Piet Janssen (Baexem), vijf buren met karren naar de Peel om daar Kornelis Krans te halen in 1938. Meestal was het dan zo, vertelde Sjeng Janssen (van Brugger Sjengske), dat degenen die geen kar hadden de koeien moesten leiden. Toen de familie Tielen in 1941 gehaald werd in Castenray, trokken de families Beijnsberger (Friede Bertje), Henderikx (Blinjes Gielke), Thiesen (Koons Piet), Geurts en Ottenheijm (Treesse) met karren erop uit om de nieuwe buren te halen. Truuje Petran had de beurs en dus de leiding. Degene die met paard
en kar reed hoefde niets te betalen. Degenen die uitgeloot werden dienden een rijksdaalder te betalen aan hen die de karren moesten rijden. Bij de soms lange reizen was het gebruik om, aangekomen in de woonplaats van de nieuwe buur, op kosten van hem in de eerste café een borrel te nuttigen. In dit geval werd gestopt in Oirlo. Op de terugreis werd een café in Sevenum bezocht. Men reed zelfs als men op de Egchelhei moest zijn, met een omweg
langs de café van Reijnen Funs, om toch maar te voldoen aan het gebruik. Zo werden natuurlijk ook de eerste sociale contacten gelegd. Als de verhuizers gereed waren, diende men die geholpen hadden ’s avonds ook te trakteren. Zodra alles goed en wel ingericht was, werden de vrouwen uit de buurt genodigd voor een koffiemaaltijd. Dit werd gedaan om nader kennis met elkaar te maken. Men noemde het ook wel ”noaber maken”. Gezelligheid
stond vroeger zeker voorop en degenen die niet trakteerden werden lang scheef aangekeken.
