Maria Petronella Gielen werd geboren op 8 oktober 1898 te Egchel. Zij was een dochter van Theodorus Gielen en Maria Giesen. Maria stond bekend als een zeer vrolijk meisje, toen ze op 27 juli 1920 naar het klooster ging. Zij trad op 28 juli 1920 in de Congregatie van de ”Kleine Zusters van de Heilige Joseph” te Heerlen. Daar werd ze geprofest op 3 februari 1921. De eeuwige gelofte legde ze af op 3 februari 1928. Van 1922 tot 1927 was Zuster Britta werkzaam in het St. Joseph-ziekenhuis te Heerlen. Daarna was ze tot 1929 werkzaam in sanatorium Hornerheide te Horn. Vervolgens werkte
ze van 1929 tot 1933 weer in het ziekenhuis te Heerlen. Vanuit Heerlen ging Zuster Britta in 1933 naar Ginneken ”Moederheil”. De moeders en kinderen waren goed geborgen in de handen van deze hardwerkende zuster. Nadat het huis in Ginneken gesloten werd, ging ze in 1962 werken in het Laurentius-ziekenhuis te Roermond.
Op donderdagavond 1 april 1965 om 20.30 uur overleed zij in het Laurentius ziekenhuis te Roermond. Zij werd begraven in de schaduw van haar moederhuis, Huize Sint Anna te Heel.
