Op dinsdag 22 juli herdenkt het bruidspaar Zegers- Nelissen, Marisstraat 7, de dag dat zij vijftig jaar geleden voor pastoor Vullinghs z.g. in de noodkerk van de parochie van het H. Hart van Jezus in Grashoek elkaar eeuwig trouw beloofden. Het was 't tweede huwelijk dat in de pas opgerichte parochie van Grashoek werd ingezegend. In deze periode hoorde Maris, waar de bruid woonde, onder Grashoek. Na de tweede wereldoorlog werd dit gedeelte van Maris bij de Beringse parochie van de H. Jozef gevoegd. Het gouden huwelijksfeest wordt op dinsdag 22 juli om 15.00 uur ingezet met een plechtige eucharistieviering in de Beringse parochiekerk. De verdere feestviering zal die dag plaatsvinden in café „De Hoove" te Beringe, waar op de receptie van 19.00-20.00 uur gelegenheid zal worden geboden 'het gouden paar en familie met hun gouden feest geluk te wensen. Gerardus Zegers werd op 4-4-1889 in Helden geboren, zijn echtgenote Engelina Nelissen aanschouwde op 26-10-1893 in Helden het levenslicht. Hun huwelijk werd met 10 kinderen gezegend, waarvan de oudste zoon helaas op 10-jarige leef tijd is gestorven. De overige negen, waarvan 6 zoons en 3 dochters, zijn allen gehuwd behalve zoon Dré die nog thuis in het bedrijf werkzaam is. De verdere nakomelingsschap bestaat uit 25 klein kinderen. De gouden bruidegom heeft vanaf zijn huwelijksdag bij schoonvader „Boos Marte" als landbouwer, in het zweet zijns aanschijns voor het jonge gezin in het onderhoud moeten voorzien, later werd meer op tuinbouw overgeschakeld met veel asperges. Zes jaar geleden werd een nieuwe woning gebouwd. Hij schroomde er als tachtigjarige niet voor om in de aspergetijd het hele seizoen 's morgens om 5 uur naar het aspergeveld te trekken om te helpen bij het asperge steken. Vanzelfsprekend schuwt hij ook andere werkzaamheden op het bedrijf niet. Moeder Zegers weet ook wat aanpakken is. Zij is zelfs nog vroeger uit de veren, of uit „de wol" dan vader Zegers en zorgt nog alleen voor het huishouden waarbij ze af en toe wordt bijgestaan door dochter of schoondochter. Verkikkerd als ze is op een goed „bakje" koffie is koffiezetten dan ook steevast haar eerste huishoudelijke werk. Alhoewel op het bedrijf thans geen paard meer dienst doet, zal het paard in de harten van het gouden paar steeds een ereplaats innemen want dit viervoetige dier was ongevraagd aanleiding tot hun eerste jonge amoureuze neigingen. Op een goeie dag moest vader Graet 's middags met het paard naar „Smeete Maan" om het dier te laten beslaan. Op weg naar de smid ontmoette hij op het „pèdje" van van der Pasch, moeder „Ingelien." Met de vraag of hij haar 's avonds naar huis mocht brengen begon vader „Graet" schuchter zijn eerste toenaderingspogingen. Het bleek bij de vrouwelijke wederhelft wel té zijn aangekaart en zo ontspon zich dit jonge liefdeleven. Het duurde echter nog 9 jaar voordat hij haar ten altaar kon voeren. Samen vormen zij nu nog na „Fast" 50 jaar een ideaal huwelijkspaar.
