Maria van den Goor
Maria was dochter van landbouwer Pieter Jan van den Goor en Maria Elisabeth Verber. Het gezin kwam in april 1921 vanuit Sevenum in Meijel op de Hoek wonen.
Maria ging naar het klooster van de Dochters van O.L. Vrouw van het H. Hart in Tilburg. Deze zusters werkten vooral in het meisjesonderwijs en de ziekenen bejaardenzorg in en buiten Nederland. Daarbij was er een samenwerking met de paters van het H. Hart (MSC). Zij werd zuster Maria Sebastiana, rond 1936 werkend in Waalwijk. In juni 1939 ging ze naar de missie op Midden-Java,
waar ze tot 1943 kon werken. In dat jaar werden alle buitenlanders in interneringskampen geplaatst.
Ook na de oorlog bleef ze nog geruime tijd op Java werken. In 1967 had zij in Tegal (Java) de leiding van de S.M.A., voortgezet onderwijs vergelijkbaar met atheneum. Voor die school kon ze met geld van het Meijelse missiecomité natuurkundige instrumenten
aanschaffen.
In 1972 konden haar leerlingen daardoor deelnemen aan de praktijkexamens natuur- en scheikunde. Ze was toen
gelukkig met de opgebouwde scholen: een lagere school met bewaarschool van 1100 leerlingen, een huishoudschool
met 400 leerlingen, een mulo-school met 370 leerlingen en de S.M.A. met 350 leerlingen.
Het educatief- en religieus centrum in Tegal werkte voor een regio van meer dan 30 km doorsnee.
Na haar terugkeer ging ze werken in het verpleegtehuis te Tilburg, waar ze op 93-jarige leeftijd overleed.
