Graad Joosten (Jacobusstraat) en Lies Thiesen (Melkweg) huwden in 1949 en vertrokken op 23 mei 1953 met de kinderen Annie en Mien aan boord van de ”Grote Beer”. Zij vestigden zich in eerste instantie bij een advokaat waar Graad als tuinman de kost verdiende.
Later vestigde de familie zich in St.Leonard te Quebec, waar hij een melkveebedrijf stichtte. Het leven van de
familie kende veel tegenspoed. Op 17 januari 1959 overleed dochter Marie Jacqueline en op 5 mei 1960 overleed Lies Thiesen op 36-jarige leeftijd. Vervolgens huwde hij met Mia Thiesen. In 1974 bestond het bedrijf uit 70 ha cultuurgrond en 230 ha bos. Voor en na vonden uitbreidingen plaats en in 1984 bestond het bedrijf uit 540 ha. thans is zoon Gerry op het bedrijf werkzaam.
