Door zijn leer- en leesboeken voor de lagere school heeft Johannes Wijma ons ond
erwijs aan zich verplicht. Zij behoren tot het beste wat er in de vorige eeuw vo
or de jeugd geschreven werd. Hij kende de kinderwereld als weinigen en wist stee
ds de juiste toon te treffen. Zijn voornaamst boekjes zijn: De Jonge Lezer,
De Kleine Oosterling en Onze Spreekwoorden, allen bij herhaling herdrukt.
Met J.G.Sander schreef hij "Bezoek aan Nederlandsch Indie" "?it onze geschieden
is" en "Uit de Oorlog 1870--1871" (2 delen). Samen met F.Bezemer schreef hij "Vo
or het Leven"een leer- en leesboek voor de jeugd.
