Sjoerd Hoekstra is na het uiteenvallen van het gezin Koene en Aukje evenals de a
ndere kinderen eerst opgevangen door het armhuis te Ureterp, daarna ging hij naa
r Sietse en Akke Veenstra en naar een boer in Drachtster Comgagnie.
Hij was geestelijk niet sterk, zijn jeugd (een uiteengevallen gezin) en de kinde
rbescherming die zich autoritair opstelde en daarna een boer die Roelof uitbuite
(de boer vond het niet goed dat Sjoerd verkering had met een meisje waarvan het
geloof niet overeen kwam met de voorkeur van de boer) hebben vast hun bijdrage
geleverd voor de opname in het psigiatriesch ziekenhuis te Franeker. Daar is Ro
elof uit een geopend raam gevallen. Of hij dit uit eigen beweging heeft gedaan o
f door mede patienten uit het raam is geduwd is nooit duidelijk geworden.
