Notes about Johannes Wijma

Johannes Wijma is ongehuwd gebleven. Hij vestigde zich in deze gemeente op 6 mei
1886 vanuit Deinum, hij was Nederlands Hervormd. Bij zijn vestiging nam hij zij
n zuster Baukje en zijn (stief)broer Foppe Westra mee. Baukje ging op 27/3/1894
naar Franeker, Foppe was vertrokken op 8/2/1891 (hij was toen onder curarele ges
teld). Johannes liet toen zijn 16 jarige nicht Geertje Wijma bij zich inwonen, z
ij is gebleven tot Johannes zijn dood. Geertje op 16/5/1930 vertrokken naar Surh
uizum alwaar zij op nr 15 bij A.W.van Dijk ging wonen.
Johannes heeft zijn (grote) huis altijd opengesteld voor zijn familie. Door zijn
onderwijsfunkte verdiende hij goed en zal daardoor een man van aanzien zijn gew
eest. Hij was hoofd van de toenmalige U.L.O. school te Balk, welke toen Piekesko
alle werd genoemd.
